Supermodel, actress and It-Girl Emily Ratajkowski, also known as the girl with the most difficult surname to pronounce within the fashion industry, is now adding a new gig to her ever-growing Curriculum Vitae, following in some of her colleagues’ footsteps. Ratajkowski has, in fact, teamed up with designer Christy Dawn to create her own eco-friendly dress line, the 25% of the proceeds of which is going to be donated to Planned Parenthood, a non-profit US organization known for providing reproductive health services and that now more than ever needs some extra help to keep on taking care of its patients. The Emily Dress is how Emily Ratajkowski’s dress collection is named and it perfectly embraces the It girl’s iconic style, letting her fans emulate her unique looks.
Christy Dawn and Emily Ratajkowski met each other for the very first time a few years ago, but it wasn’t up until a few months ago that the duo decided to unite forces and start creating something really unique. The 75-piece line, which is set to be available for purchase starting with December 7, with the price tags set at $250, combines Dawn’s designing skills and sustainable policy (each one of Dawn’s pieces is made by local artisans in Downtown Los Angeles, and her brand uses only deadstock fabrics to come up with 100% eco-friendly designs) with Ratajkowski’s artistic sense of style, giving birth to a limited-edition frock line that is effortlessly stylish and eco-friendly. Available in 6 colors, the day-to-night Emily Dress features a squared neckline and lovely three-quarter sleeves with butterfly cuffs ethereally recalling the skirt’s flared and ruffled line. Available both online and at Dawn’s store in Venice, California, only about 100 pieces will be produced, so one really has to hurry up before the collection inexorably gets sold out.
“I’ve always been interested in designing and creating clothes for women by women that are unique and flattering. Teaming up with Christy, an amazing friend, mother and entrepreneur, was an ideal situation. I couldn’t be happier with The Emily Dress, and am thrilled we are generating support for Planned Parenthood through a portion of the sales proceeds,” Ratajkowski recently stated.
Dawn also has nothing but kind words about her experience of working with Ratajkowski, whose grit and creativity made it possible for the collaboration to work out so well. “Within a week, we met and designed the dress. We did it really fast. It was cool to see someone so busy want to work with a smaller company like us. […] Collaborating with Emily has been wonderful. She has an exceptional eye and she’s really good at communicating her vision. We both value the impact of our social and environmental footprint. It is nice to work with another strong woman who cares just as much about process as she does about product.”
As for the charity donations, Dawn let it up to the 24-year-old beauty, who is well known for being a kindhearted philanthropist, too. “I let Emily take full rein on the charity of her choice because I wanted her to be really inspired to give to a charity that she was passionate about and I know she’s done a lot of work with Planned Parenthood so I was definitely on board,” declared Dawn Petersen, whose heart is very closed to Planned Parenthood, too.
